TRACTOR PORT - DAY 6

The plywood sheathing started going up yesterday, and as more and more 4' x 8' sheets got screwed to the roof joists, I could actually see the fruits of my labor.  The area below, and the south wall became more and more shaded from the sun.

With the forks on the front of the loader, moving the plywood from the trailer to the new roof is a snap.

Securing the plywood to the roof lumber is no big deal, it's just slow going when you don't have a nail gun, and have chosen to use screws instead.  The 2" x 6" boards that span the 12' gap aren't exactly straight, and I had to make a few adjustments in order to get the plywood to match up on either end.  When you only have an inch and a half area on top of the board, and must connect two sheets on that one board, there isn't much room for error.  Fortunately, I pretty much adhere to the old carpenter rule of "measure twice & cut once".  So far, except for the not so straight boards, everything is matching up pretty good.

By the time the sun was starting to go down, I had 24 feet covered, which is exactly one half of the roof.  I should get the last half covered today, then work on cutting the plywood into one or two foot sections, in order to cover all, or part of the eves.

Tomorrow is the latest rescheduled date for the metal building to be delivered.  That means we should be getting a phone call today from Coast to Coast, to either confirm, or cancel the appointment.  So far, they have cancelled 3 appointment dates, so it won't be a big surprise if tomorrow becomes the fourth.  Stay tuned......................
