BACK IN CALIFORNIA

We pulled out of the Chance Ranch at 9am, leaving behind a lot of projects, but glad to be back on the road in the motor home.  Once on Interstate 10, it was westbound for about 70 miles to the Flying J in Eloy, AZ.  Diesel price with the rewards card was 3.57, and 66 gallons later, the cost was $236.

We almost always take the Interstate 8, Highway 85 bypass around Phoenix, and it was no different yesterday.  Back on Interstate 10 in Buckeye, we continued W/B, making a quick stop at a rest area for dog and driver relief.  While passing through Quartzsite, I noticed that the big tent for the RV show was not yet up, and the numbers of RV's parked in the desert seemed to be low for this time of year.  The RV show doesn't start until the 19th, so perhaps it's still a little early for folks to start arriving in this mecca for RV enthusiasts.

Just before crossing the Arizona/California border, the Flying J in Ehrenberg was doing a booming business.  Cars, and trucks were lined up, waiting to get to the pumps.  It's no wonder that people when leaving CA, wait to get fuel in AZ, due to the huge drop in prices.  Once we passed over the Colorado River into CA, the prices in Blythe were about a dollar more a gallon for regular gas, and diesel was about fifty cents more.  It was a subtle reminder of the many reasons why we decided to move out of the golden state.

We picked up an hour, crossing into pacific time, arriving at the Wal Mart in La Quinta at 3pm, which was the predetermined meeting location for our Golden Spike RV Chapter.  After a bunch of greetings, and hugs, Patty, Nancy, and I had Chinese food within walking distance, and then the girls made a Wal-Mart run.  We were in bed early, having covered just under 400 miles in 7 hours.  This morning, we move as a group of 16 motor homes, to the fairgrounds, where we'll be parked for the next 6 days.
