SOUTHEAST TO YUMA

By the time we had finished our clean up duties, it was about 10am when we returned to the motor home.  With the Jeep hooked behind, we pulled out of the Indio Fairgrounds, as hundreds of other motor homes were doing the same.  Nancy followed us closely behind, (she can run red lights with the best of them), as we took Hwy 86 south toward the Salton Sea.  When we got to Salton City, thinking that there might be some interesting sights of an abandoned, kind of ghost town community, we took shore drive off Hwy 86.  We had just seen a TV documentary about the dying Salton Sea, and the images of closed businesses, and marinas wasn't what we saw yesterday.  There were a few residential buildings that were obviously abandoned, but they were far and few between, compared to the newer homes we saw.

Back on Hwy 86, we continued south through Westmoreland, and Brawley, stopping in El Centro at a Farmer Boys Restaurant for lunch.  The sign said "World's greatest Hamburgers", so on the surface, that appeared to be right in the middle of my wheelhouse.  The girls had chicken wraps, and I had a double cheeseburger with bacon and avocado.  Not that I'm ready to throw IN N OUT, or 5 Guys under the bus yet, but this was a great burger!  We left with full stomachs, driving the last stretch on I8, from El Centro to Yuma.  We checked into the Suni Sands RV park, which is conveniently situated right next to the Wal Mart Supercenter across from the fairgrounds.  As Thousand Trails members, we were given a weekly, discounted rate, but this park is an older, more permanent residential park, with lots of park models, and RV's that haven't moved in many years.  We were guided to an area where we parked in long pull thru (sort of) spaces, but not much room in between rigs.  We have full hookups, but only 30 amp electrical.  I noticed right away that the voltage was low, and it didn't take long for Nancy's new progressive, electrical management system to shut her down due to insufficient voltage.  When she turned off a few things, the voltage came back up enough to keep the juice flowing into her coach.  We'll have to decide today, if we're staying, or moving to another location where the power is not sub-standard.  Stay tuned.........
