SKAGWAY, ALASKA TO WHITEHORSE, YUKON

 Emerald Lake

Once we finally had the mail in our possesion yesterday morning, we decided to take off for our next destination - Whitehorse.   Perhaps the chaos at the post office worked in our favor, as we ended up staying a couple of extra days in Skagway, a place that we could have stayed much longer.  But, there's a lot more to see in this far north country, so we pulled out of the Corrington property (thanks Dennis & Nancy), fueled up the motor homes in town, then started the 14 mile climb up the White Pass.

I had Patty drive our Jeep up the long hill, connecting when we got over the top.  Nancy didn't have that option, but both motor homes did just fine on the long pull.  We breezed through Canadian Customs, making one stop at Emerald Lake, on the 100+ mile trip to Whitehorse.  The pictures don't do justice to this beautiful lake, but they do give you an idea of it's uniqueness.  When we were living in Skagway, we flew over Emerald lake in a small aircraft, and the blend of colors from the air is even more spectacular.

It was mid afternoon when we checked into the Pioneer RV Park, and even though we didn't have reservations, we scored a couple of 30 amp, full hookup, back in spaces.  Our first order of business was FOOD!  We were all hungry, and there wasn't any question about where we were headed.

Klondike Rib & Salmon is only open during the summer months, and they have the absolutely best Halibut & Chips on the planet.  During our summers working in Skagway, we frequently drove up to Whitehorse for better shopping, and almost always stopped at this unique restaurant.  Patty and Nancy both had the Halibut chowder, and said it was as good as the fish & chips.

After the late lunch, early dinner, we did some grocery shopping at the Canadian Superstore, then back to the motor homes.  Both of our Winegard Dish Network satellite antennas locked in on 2 or the 3 satellites, so yea, TV for at least a couple of days.  And, the park WiFi works like a champ, so we're spoiled to the max!

Patty called our friends Bev & Charlie, who now live in Whitehorse after being Skagway residents for many years.  We're set up to have dinner with them tonight.  After more than a week of mostly blue skies, & warm weather, it cooled off last night with a few showers.

Pioneer RV Park - $30.24  Cumulative - $458.17
Diesel Corner Station Skagway @ $4.80 per gallon
41.2 gallons = $198.00  Cumulative - $2,220.61
MPG = 7.9  Cumulative - 7.9
Miles traveled - 107  Cumulative - 3,946
