Patty and Sherry near the top of White Pass.
Looking back toward Skagway from below the summit.
Just over the border into Canada.
Not too far from where Patty took this picture, there was a black bear alongside the road, with about 6 people within just a few feet of the critter. They had gotten out of their cars, and were taking pictures when Sherry stopped in the road. According to Patty, Sherry not so politely, told them how stupid they were, and to get back to a safe distance. See Nancy's blog for some pictures of the bear who was within a few feet of their bus.
Later, we met Sherry, Nancy, and Dennis Corrington for dinner at the Skagway Brewing Co. Since they wouldn't allow us to pay them anything for our full hookup parking spaces, we at least bought them dinner, and had a great visit. Dennis & Nancy have been very successful business owners in Skagway since 1976. They were ahead of the curve when the cruise industry started focusing on Alaska as a destination for their cruise ships. Patty worked for Sherry in their flagship store, Corringtons Alaskan Ivory, for a total of 4 summers. Before I started driving a tour bus, I worked for the Corringtons our first 2 summers in Skagway. Our friendship with the Corringtons has transcended the employer - employee relationship, and even though they are extremely busy, they took some time to have dinner with us.
Left to right - Sherry, Dennis, Nancy, Patty, and yours truly.
