A DAM DAY

We're in the middle day of a 3 day whirlwind of activities. Yesterday morning, we car pooled from the Lake Mead RV Park, to the Hoover Dam. Our first order of business was a tour of the dam itself. But, before that could even start, everyone had to go through an airport style security checkpoint, with scanners, metal detectors, etc. Not even a small pocketknife could make it's way into the heart of the dam, as Bill Hall found out. I certainly understand the need for security in this day and age, but come on, how in the world does a pocket knife threaten the security, or integrity of Hoover Dam!

Patty and I had taken the tour many years ago, but we had forgotten about most of what we saw and heard. It was an informative and interesting time spent within the dam, and Nevada power plant.

From the dam, we drove into Boulder City, and had lunch at the Boulder Dam Hotel. After lunch, we toured the museum upstairs, then headed back to the motor homes, parked by the lake. Later, it was back to Boulder City where we all had dinner at the Brew PUB restaurant. The last order of business for the day, was a chapter meeting back at the RV park. We discussed upcoming train rides, including the Carson City Rally on Sep 29,30 & Oct 1st, that Patty and I are putting together.

In order to read the schedule of events, you'll probably have to click the picture and enlarge it. Even then, it's a little small, but may give everyone an idea of all the activities planned for these 3 days.

This morning, we're headed for the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City, where there is still a few miles of the Boulder Dam Railroad track still in operation. It won 't be a long train ride, but for this group, it's a train ride, and that's all that's important.
